I landed and flew out of Dublin and yet opted out of the city to focus on the more rural gems of Ireland. In the time it took to deplane, collect my checked bag, and check in at the rental car desk, I was sitting on the right side of the car, about to find out how difficult it would actually be to drive on the opposite side of the road. I would find out with a three-hour drive that consisted of highway and country roads. And if you know anything about Irish country roads, that’s where the real test lies.
Over the next seven days, I stayed in four unique Airbnbs and drove around the southern peninsulas of County Cork and County Kerry. It was a seven-day journey full of rolling green hills with pastures of sheep and cows, craggy coastal cliffs, ruins, and vibrant touristy towns—all with so much character. It felt more relaxing than any resort beach vacation.
Ballinadee Bus & Kinsale
Three sleeps at the top of a double-decker bus overlooking a medley of farm animals. Days were spent on side quests; mornings and evenings were for decompressing with cheeky critters and a wood-fire hot tub.
